Volunteer Profile: Anat Avigad

In preparing for her eldest son's Bar Mitzvah, Anat Avigad was looking for something to make the experience more meaningful and hands-on for her rising 13-year-old Lotan. As a resident in the Arava region in the south of Israel, volunteer opportunities were limited and with the help of some internet research, she found Meir Panim Dimona, still a 45-minute drive from their home. Not Just Volunteers

So appreciative to the outstanding group of young adults that have been volunteering at our Dimona branch throughout the school year. The members of the group live in a nearby town in the South of Israel, each week they bring produce that had been donated from their local farms. Our clients in Dimona enjoyed spending time each week, with this wonderful group of volunteers-- and eating their delicious produce!

Woodworking in Sderot

Last week the Nir Am Youth Center in Sderot, hosted a very special evening. Branch Manager, Tair organized a woodworking class for people with special needs and the Deputy Mayor joined. This is a great example of how the center is really so much more than a place for teens to "hang out" but a community asset which affects the whole community. It was a great way for the teens to be exposed to different kinds of people and see how special the center is that they have, and the opportunities t...

Thanks to their efforts, we packed up thousands of boxes filled with food for impoverished families to enjoy over the holiday of Shavuot. Special thanks to the two tourists from Minnesota, who popped in and helped us serve lunch in addition to helping with the packing.
