Meals on Wheels
Hungry and Homebound

Each day, thousands of destitute men, women, and children turn to Meir Panim for a hot, nourishing meal to give them strength and sustenance. However, for tens of thousands of homebound, elderly, disabled, and Holocaust survivors, venturing to Meir Panim’s free restaurants for a meal is impossible. For others, the embarrassment of being seen receiving a free meal is more painful than the hunger that they experience.

Meals-on-Wheels

Meir Panim responds to their call and delivers 1,200 packaged meals to homebound individuals each day. The Municipal Welfare and Absorption Services inform Meir Panim when there are people who are in need of the Meals-on-Wheels services.

Additional Care from Volunteers

Teams of devoted volunteers deliver the nutritious meals, while inquiring into the individuals’ welfare and overall state of health. The volunteers ascertain if they are in need of other forms of assistance, such as basic equipment and appliances or minor household repairs. For the grateful and lonely homebound recipients, these visits are often the only connection to the outside world.

As Meir Panim’s volunteers often form the most regular contact with these individuals, it is no surprise that they have been able to report illnesses or declines in health to the proper authorities on occasion, preserving their overall state of health.
